About Artful Balance

About Artful Balance

Artful Balance is a community-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting mental and emotional wellbeing through creative expression and embodied practice.

Our work is rooted in the belief that care can be gentle, accessible, and shared. Through art-making, movement, and community connection, we create spaces where people can slow down, listen to themselves, and explore wellbeing in ways that feel human and supportive.

Our Story

Artful Balance began with a simple but deeply felt question: what would it look like to create spaces for mental and emotional wellbeing that feel human, creative, and accessible, rather than clinical or overwhelming?

Born out of community-based care and lived experience, Artful Balance was shaped by the understanding that many people need support that meets them gently. We saw a need for spaces where art and movement could be used not as tools for performance or productivity, but as invitations to slow down, notice, and reconnect.

From small, intimate gatherings to broader community offerings, Artful Balance has grown through relationships. Each program is informed by listening to the needs, capacities, and voices of the people we serve. Our work continues to evolve in response to community feedback, collaboration, and care.

Artful Balance is guided by its Executive Director, Morgan Singleton, an artist and graduate social work student whose work sits at the intersection of creativity, care, and community connection. Morgan’s approach is shaped by lived experience, community-based practice, and a belief that wellbeing is most sustainable when it is accessible and relational. Drawing from both academic training and creative practice, she centers gentleness, equity, and trust in the spaces Artful Balance creates. Her leadership emphasizes listening over prescribing, presence over performance, and the idea that healing often begins when people are given permission to move slowly and engage creatively on their own terms.

Our Approach

Our approach centers creativity and embodiment as pathways to wellbeing. We believe that art-making and movement can support regulation, expression, and connection in ways that words alone sometimes cannot.

Artful Balance offerings are intentionally low-pressure and flexible. There is no expectation to produce a finished product, perform movement in a certain way, or participate beyond what feels supportive in the moment. Choice, autonomy, and consent are foundational to how we design and facilitate experiences.

We emphasize accessibility in multiple forms, including emotional accessibility, physical accessibility, and cultural responsiveness. Our programs are designed to be adaptable, trauma-sensitive, and welcoming to people with diverse identities, experiences, and abilities.

Who We Serve

Artful Balance serves individuals and communities who are seeking supportive, creative approaches to mental and emotional wellbeing.

Our programs are designed for:

  • Youth, young adults, and adults navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, or emotional overwhelm
  • Individuals who benefit from non-clinical, creative, or body-based forms of support
  • People seeking community-centered spaces that affirm diverse identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences
  • Communities and organizations interested in integrating art and movement into wellness, prevention, or supportive programming

We are especially mindful of those who may feel underserved by traditional mental health systems or who are looking for complementary forms of care. Artful Balance welcomes participants with varying abilities, experience levels, and capacities. No prior art or movement experience is required.

Our Values

Our work is grounded in values that shape how we show up in community and care for one another.

Community Care

We believe wellbeing is not an individual endeavor. Our work prioritizes collective care, mutual support, and shared responsibility.

Accessibility

We are committed to creating spaces that are welcoming, flexible, and responsive. This includes honoring different bodies, needs, energy levels, and ways of engaging.

Creativity Without Pressure

Creativity is a birthright, not a skill reserved for a few. We value process over product and curiosity over outcome.

Embodied Presence

Movement and bodily awareness help ground us in the present moment. We approach embodiment with gentleness and respect.

Collaboration & Integrity

We work alongside facilitators, partners, and participants with transparency, respect, and care. Relationships matter.
